FOSSIL FUEL DIVESTMENT
The fossil fuel industry is a major cause of preventable death and disease and the primary source of misinformation about climate change and political opposition to clean energy and clean air.
Many in the health professions are calling on our institutions and professional organizations to stop investing in fossil fuels.
The British Medical Association, the Canadian Medical Association and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have divested, along with Health Care Without Harm, Practice GreenHealth and Hesta, a $29 billion pension fund for Australian health workers. The World Federation of Public Health Associations has issued a call for all public health associations to divest, and a coalition of public health groups in the UK recently published Unhealthy Investments, a report explaining how hospital investment in fossil fuels harms the health of their communities.

THREE REASONS
1. Healing institutions should not invest in products which cause death and disease.
2. Health organizations should invest in businesses which promote climate denial and oppose climate action.
3. Fossil fuel investments are too risky for institutions whose financial health is a matter of life and death.
