BIOMASS IS NOT CLEAN ENERGY
The Redwood Coast Energy Authority promised to provide Humboldt County with 100% clean electricity by 2025, but instead they plan to use our ratepayer money to buy high priced dirty energy to 2030 and beyond.
NOT CLEAN FOR CLIMATE Local biomass plants emit more greenhouse gas than all the county's cars. This is increasing global warming during the critical ten years we have left to avoid a climate catastrophe.
NOT CLEAN FOR PEOPLE Humboldt's aging dirty biomass plants emit over a ton of fine particulates each week, increasing our risk of heart and lung disease, hospitalizations, and early death.
WE CAN DO BETTER Communities and states across the country are committed to reach 100% clean energy, and most of them don't have biomass plants. Energy efficiency, clean energy, energy storage, and a smarter grid are all parts of the solution. But long term plans that lock us into expensive biomass will siphon off funds we need to adopt them.
